A joint exhibition with Justine Ritchie
What’s better than a solo exhibition? An exhibition with your lovely and talented friend!
Justine Ritchie is a photographer and writer that I got to know when she asked if The Ceilidh Place bookshop in Ullapool (that she manages) could stock my seaweed cards. We share an interest in the natural world and botanical forms, and I can’t think of a better venue to hold our joint exhibition than where we first connected.
My contribution to the exhibition is a series of 12 monoprints made with Wracks. Wracks (Fucus) are a common but often overlooked group of seaweeds, so it’s wonderful to have the opportunity to highlight their amazing texture and shape in print. I began by allocating each species a colour, and then tested one in dark brown. I loved it! So I’ve chosen to show six monoprints in allocated colours, and six in the deepest raw umber. All original and each unique
Printed species are:
Bladder wrack (Fucus vesiculosus)
Guiry’s bladder wrack (Fucus guiryi)
Horned wrack (Fucus ceranoides)
Spiral wrack (Fucus spiralis)
Serrated wrack (Fucus serratus)
